Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is an annual campaign to raise public awareness about sexual assault and educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence. It is observed in April in the USA.
Each year during the month of April, state, territory, tribal and community-based organizations, rape crisis centers, government agencies, businesses, campuses and individuals plan events and activities to highlight sexual violence as a public health, human rights and social justice issue and reinforce the need for prevention efforts.
The theme, slogan, resources and materials for the national SAAM campaign are coordinated by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center each year with assistance from anti-sexual assault organizations throughout the United States.
Here is a powerful excerpt from President Obama’s proclamation for Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month 2011:
“Despite reforms to our legal system, sexual violence remains pervasive and largely misunderstood. Nearly one in six American women will experience an attempted or completed rape at some point in her life, and for some groups, rates of sexual violence are even higher. Almost one in three American Indian and Alaska Native women will be sexually assaulted. Young women ages 16 to 24 are at greatest risk, and an alarming number of young women are sexually assaulted while in college. Too many men and boys are also affected. With each new victim and each person still suffering from an attack, we are called with renewed purpose to respond to and rid our Nation of all forms of sexual violence…
Each victim of sexual assault represents a sister or a daughter, a nephew or a friend. We must break the silence so no victim anguishes without resources or aid in their time of greatest need.”
So what can we do about it?

We think that the posibility of change this situation starts in the education, all people have to explain to their childs that not is not , and they have to respect all people.
ReplyDeleteI think that we can create a center to help this victims, I mean, with psychologists. Also they can do some sports or things to keep them distracted and to the victims without resources organise campaigns to collect food or clothes and make them feel that they are not alone so they must not be in silence.
ReplyDeleteWe have to learn that "no" is "no".
ReplyDeletethat we all have the right to decide and we have the right to be respected.

we think the society (parents, teachers, friends,...) should teach to children since they are young that they don't have to do it, in this way we think it can be stopped.

i think that we have teach to not violate. The problem reside in the rapist. Not have blame the victims.
ReplyDeleteGabriel and me think the idea of a shelter for the victims. Whit proffesionals who help the people and teach them how to confront their trauma.
ReplyDeleteSexual assault could stop if we control the people who have assaulted women before. And if we teach students in a young age about sexual assault, so that it wont happen when they become adults.

ReplyDeleteWe think a good education is the key to eliminate this kind of situations, also if you see someone suffering it or you are a victim you must act inmediately in order to change these sexual assaults.

We think that the patriarchy is in all places, we can find it in the normal live, in the law, in the religions, traditions. We have done a lot to improve that situation, but against the social opinion, the male chauvinism is present in all lifes. We are so proud of all the women that fights and proud of what we have changed but there are a lot of changes to do. Start the revolution! GRLPWR <3

ReplyDeleteIf we want to stop sexual attacks, we must teach the people to respects the others when they are childs
ReplyDeletein our opinion we think that the problem of sexual harassment towards women could be solved by instilling values and education to men from a young age by letting them know that women are not inferior to them, another solution would be that criminal punishments were greater
