Bachillerato 3rd term Projects

3rd Term B1 English Literature Projects
Project 1 (in groups of 4/5) oral presentation + 10 minutes video including main scenes of the story.  Short oral presentation including:
-                     Context and biography
-                     Summary
-                     Analysis of Major Characters
-                     Themes and Symbols
Each group must choose one of the following authors and novels:

Project 2 Compulsory reading 1984 by George Orwell
AFTER READING THE NOVEL (May, 4th) Oral presentations in groups
1. Context and Setting: Setting: Place the book on a historical time line. What happened before the book was published? What has happened since? Discuss: Which of Orwell’s predictions have become a part of history, not only in communist countries but in the free world?
Put together a collection of photographs of current scenes that capture the tone of 1984. A slide show with narration would also be a good idea.
2. Plot: Watch a video production of 1984. How is the book different from the movie? Was it easier to understand or more difficult? Were scenes left out or changed, and if so, how did those omissions or changes affect the way you interpret the book?
3. Analysis of Major Characters
4. Themes and symbols, and how does Orwell use them? Debate/Discuss “Can history be rewritten? Should it be?”
5. Point of View Analysis & Hold a debate between Party members and revolutionaries or between Inner and outer Party members.
6. George Orwell’s Animal Farm, compare and contrast to 1984. Debate the following topics: (a) Can men forget they are human? (b) Can men create a perfect society? (c) The greatest deterrent to achieving goals is hopelessness.

Project 3 Research and Writing Task;
The 20th Century literary periods:
Victorian Literature
Realism
Naturalism
Modernism
Bloomsbury Group
Existentialism
Beat Generation
. Provide an introduction, brief description, main characteristics, major writers for each period and bibliography.  (Digital format is compulsory)

Non-compulsory actitivities (individual or in groups)
-                     1984 Make a video depicting sections from the book
-                     Extra oral presentation on one of the remaining  authors and novels above

-                     May Festival:  Volunteer performance, please confirm your participation ASAP. You can either say a 20th Century poem or depict an excerpt of one of the novels. No papers allowed.
